The following are definitions of terms and abbreviations used in our site:

Collaboration Technology Tools (usually software) that enables people to work together effectively in a networked environment, regardless of whether this occurs at the same time with others (synchronously) or independent of other's activities at the time (asynchronously). DICE is an example of a collaboration technology.
Command and Control (C2) A means to effect the exchange of data, information, and knowledge between the commander and subordinates to enable decision-makers to make better decisions.
DICE Distributed Interactive Collaboration Environment; a general-purpose template for multiple online users to train, plan and share information.
Distributed Team Used synonymously with virtual team.
Faking Faking (good) involves an individual consciously manipulating their responses to a personality measure with the intent to make a favorable impression. Read ThoughtLink's publications in this area under Personality and Job Performance.
Fidelity The accuracy of the representation when compared to the real world; the similarity, both physical and functional, between the simulation and that which it simulates.
Game An experiential training activity marked by a learning goal, competition, rules, scores or outcomes and winners and losers. Games may be content-laden or be a “pure” game devoid of content*. ThoughtLink and the Center for Naval Analysis developed a C2 game called SCUDHunt .
Industrial/Organizational Psychology (I/O)

I/O psychology is the study of the behavior of people in the workplace. Industrial and organizational psychology attempts to apply psychological results and methods to aid workers and organizations. It is also known as occupational psychology and work.

Job Task Analysis A process of examining a specific job to identify all the duties and tasks that are performed at a specific skill and experience level.
Malapropism The usually unintentionally humorous misuse or distortion of a word or phrase. Read some of ThoughtLink's Julia Loughran's most amusing ones here.
Mid Tech Refers to technologies that are affordable by the average small client and that can be used by people with basic computer knowledge.
Model A representation of reality (usually mathematical).
SCUDHunt An online game of command and control, designed to test how virtual (distributed) teams coordinate when using different modes of communication and visualization tools.
